World Environment Day is the biggest international day for the environment. Led by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and held annually since 1973
We are happy to share the success of the World Environment Day 2023 #BeatPlasticPollution Clean Up Event that took place in Setu Pengasinan, Sawangan, Depok, West Java, Indonesia. The event was a collaboration result with Trash Hero Jakarta, Forum Komunitas Hijau Nusantara, and the local communities. The #BeatPlasticPollution Clean Up was a resounding success, bringing together passionate individuals and local communities to combat plastic pollution and restore the natural beauty of the environment. Volunteers worked to collect and properly dispose of plastic waste, raising awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic on ecosystems and the urgent need for sustainable solutions. In total, we collected 26.6 kgs of plastic/inorganic trashes around the lake area. The collected inorganic trashes are 8 medical masks, 31 cigarettes, 29 bottle lids, and 240 plastic straws). It was an inspiring display of collective action and a reminder of our shared responsibility to protect and preserve our planet.
Another event, the Interactive Dialogue by UN in Indonesia and Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) titled "Plastic Trashes: Defining Problems, Building Solutions", with environmental experts from The Ministry of Environment and Forestry, UNOPS, UNDP, UNEP, University of Indonesia, and Get Plastic Indonesia, was aired in 60 different regions in Indonesia. The experts engaged in thought-provoking discussions, sharing valuable insights and expertise on pressing environmental challenges. The dialogue focused on exploring innovative approaches, promoting sustainable practices, and fostering partnerships to drive positive change. The exchange of ideas and experiences inspired participants to take concrete actions towards a greener, more sustainable future.
These events were a testament to the commitment and dedication of all participants in advancing environmental sustainability. The UN in Indonesia, alongside its partners, is proud to have facilitated these initiatives, which have amplified the importance of collective efforts in addressing environmental issues. The events not only raised awareness but also mobilized communities and individuals to actively contribute to building a more sustainable and resilient world.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated in these events, as well as the local authorities and organizations that supported the initiatives. It is through such collaborative efforts that we can make a lasting impact and create a better future for generations to come. Let us continue our journey towards a sustainable and environmentally conscious world. Together, we can make a difference! #WorldEnvironmentDay #CleanUp #InteractiveDialogue #SustainableFuture
