SELAMAT HARI RAYA IDUL FITRI
1 Syawal 1442 H
MOHON MAAF LAHIR DAN BATHIN
As the United Nations’ Resident Co-ordinator for Indonesia, I would like to wish Eid Mubarak to all Muslims who are celebrating Eid al Fitr. Today, I join you in reflecting on the values of gratitude and compassion that inspire so many people throughout the fasting season.
This year especially, those values call to mind the selfless dedication of nurses, doctors, midwives, and other care staff around the world. In Indonesia, health workers shoulder a heavy burden as they strive to protect us all from the ravages of the pandemic. Over the past year, hundreds of Indonesian health workers have lost their lives to COVID-19 in service of tending to the sick and vulnerable.
Today, as Eid greetings are exchanged across the country, I want to say thank you to the hundreds of thousands of health workers in Indonesia—many of whom will be working through the holiday. I also want to express the United Nations’ solidarity with everyone fighting the pandemic—especially the heath workers on its frontlines. I wish you all a happy, safe, and peaceful Eid.
