The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS Factsheet
In the ongoing battle against HIV/AIDS, access to accurate information and effective strategies is paramount. As part of the global effort to combat this public health threat, The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) has been at the forefront of initiatives aimed at prevention, treatment, and support. In our latest factsheet, we present key results and achievements from 2022 to 2023, highlighting the impactful work undertaken in collaboration with national partners, civil society organizations, communities, and governments.
Key Achievements and Initiatives
One of the significant milestones achieved during this period was the successful implementation of the Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) pilot, which reached nearly 10,000 individuals. Additionally, advancements in HIV test and treatment policies, such as those implemented by the Ministry of Health, have played a crucial role in expanding treatment initiation. Moreover, the establishment of the National Alliance to End AIDS in Children and the hosting of the Elimination of Mother-to-Child Transmission Symposium underscore the commitment to addressing transmission routes comprehensively.
Collaborative Efforts and Impact
UNAIDS, alongside nine UN organizations and numerous national partners, has spearheaded efforts to tailor HIV/AIDS activities to the specific needs of communities across Indonesia. Through collaboration with civil society organizations, community networks, and research institutions, impactful initiatives have been realized, including the rollout of HIV self-testing initiatives, strengthening of antiretroviral drug supply chains, and implementation of comprehensive sexuality education campaigns.
Leaving No One Behind
Central to UNAIDS' mission is the principle of leaving no one behind. This ethos is reflected in initiatives such as the peer support model for women living with HIV, awareness sessions on harassment and violence vulnerability, and crisis mechanisms to mitigate community risks. By ensuring inclusivity and addressing the needs of marginalized populations, UNAIDS Indonesia is advancing towards the shared goal of ending AIDS by 2030.
