Operations Management Team of the United Nations
The Operations Management Team (OMT) plays a critical role in coordinating the efforts of the United Nations (UN) at the country level, aiming to streamline the administrative functions and operational support to all participating agencies. This focus on efficiency ensures timely, high-quality assistance is provided, furthering the UN's mission. In Indonesia, the OMT is the leading force behind the successful implementation of various UN programs, contributing significantly to the country's development.
Operating under the UN Country Team's supervision, the OMT is responsible for coordinating and implementing an efficient, effective common operational support agenda. They strive to optimize program delivery, focusing on business operations and, where a clear business case is present, a joint approach to operational support services. This includes common services like administrative and financial services, commercial services (common bank, catering, travel agency), and others tied to common premises (utilities, cleaning, maintenance), security, safety, and health care.
Moreover, the OMT takes on a range of responsibilities linked to common operations in support of program delivery. These responsibilities extend to strategic planning, common procurement, human resource management, logistics, finance, and harmonized approaches to cash transfers, among others. Through a meticulously organized workplan, the team ensures that common operations run smoothly, enabling the UN's various arms to execute their programs effectively.
At the governance level, the OMT reports to the UN Country Team and oversees the progress of various work streams under the Business Operations Strategy (BOS) and the Annual Work Plan. With the UN Country Team holding the final decision power, the Operations Management Team ensures that the operationalization of the team's vision aligns with the BOS. Moreover, the OMT also oversees the implementation of the Business Operations Strategy and ensures its alignment with key performance indicators.
To facilitate this complex work, the OMT hosts monthly meetings and an annual retreat to reflect on the past year's work and plan for the coming year. Detailed minutes are taken and shared with the UN Country Team to keep everyone informed. This diligent and coordinated approach allows the OMT to effectively oversee the operational aspects of UN work at the country level, enabling more efficient and impactful program delivery.
